St. Anne Catholic School Learning Enrichment and Academics Program
St. Anne Catholic School recognizes the need to provide gifted academic education to identified students. The purpose of our Learning Enrichment and Academics Program (LEAP) is to provide identified students with extended opportunities to address their academic abilities and talents. Students identified by our eligibility and identification guidelines as seen below, qualify for LEAP. Identification begins at the beginning of third grade, and the LEAP program is offered to students in grades 3-5. This criterion was developed according to the SC state guidelines for Gifted and Talented. This is a strict process and does not allow for subjective input from teacher or parents. Academically gifted learners typically learn quickly and desire greater depth of content. Our instruction will aid the development of critical thinking and communication skills through project-based learning. Students will be pulled out of the regular classroom once or twice a week to work in groups. LEAP students will learn to maintain and balance their responsibilities in both the LEAP classroom and their regular classroom. The classroom teacher, LEAP teacher, and the parents will work together with the student to make that adjustment. Classroom teachers will also recognize the abilities and needs for our academically gifted students to learn, grow, and thrive. They will offer enrichment and critical thinking opportunities within the regular classroom to meet the needs of identified students. Eligibility/Identification Guidelines
